This course covers different features of the interface, gives a brief overview of all the tabs in the ribbon, shows users how to design and construct a simple database, and covers the basics of using forms and reports.

About This Course

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Create and use simple databases.
  • Enter new data and manage existing data.
  • Define the purpose and terminology associated with a relational database through touring Access objects.
  • Follow the steps required to properly plan the design of a table.
  • Create tables to hold data and establish data types for fields.
  • Understanding simple calculation operators.
  • Learn the fundamentals of forms and reports using the wizard.
  • Create mailing label within Access using the label wizard.
  • Modify the design of a table, filter, and sort through data.
  • Understand field indexing, the use of primary keys, and data type fields.

After completing this course, students will move on to Access Level 2 to continue certification.

Prerequisites

This course assumes the user understands the basics of using a Windows-based computer. Students should be comfortable using the keyboard, mouse, and Start menu. Students should also be comfortable navigating the file structure of their computer in order to create and manage files and folders. Understanding and experience with printing and using a Web browser is an asset, but not required. Intermediate knowledge of Excel or similar applications is helpful.
